My Tanka poems

Tanka

Earthquakes
Shaking, breaking fast
Screaming yelling quickly run
People falling down
Cracking in the big green ground
Crying dieing kids

Birds
Birds are flying home
New birds are born every year
Birds singing away
They eat all of the insects
That we really need

The rule to a Tanka poem is to have 5, 7,5,7,5 syllables in each line.

Making and flying our Kites

Today at school we made kites. The first kite we made was a fish kite and that took three days to make it. The second kite was the chinese dragon kite and we all got to help make one bit of the body. After lunch we made little kites and my one did not work because it broke. When we came to flying the kites we flew the dragon kite first but it did not work. Then we flew the fish kite and my one only worked a little bit. After that we flew each other's kites.

Rotorua Camp

Monday

When I stared packing I put lots and lots of clothes in a huge bag that had strings to zip it up. The sleeping bag would not fit in the huge bag and I finally got the bag to shut by jumping on it. Then I put $26 in the bag. I got all of my toiletries and put them in the bag too then put my suitcase in the car then dove to school. I felt excited. When I got there, there were two vans and they had a trailer with them. When we got there we took all of our gear out of our cars and day packs in the trailer and then I chose a van to ride in and then of we went but one of the vans were slow. Then we had lunch in Taumarunui. When I finally got there I got all of my stuff out of the vans and I found my room and then made my bed and Miss Lewis’s. We were tired.

Tuesday

I had rice bubbles with yogurt then we had free time and I talked to my mates. Next we got in the vans and went to the Buried Village and when we were at the Buried Village we saw lots of things buried in mud. We had to look around inside the Museum then we went out side and we went down steep steps to see the waterfall and the sign at the top said it was a 5 minute walk down but it only took 2 minutes! Then I saw a sign that said it was a 10 minute walk but it was not! I saw the place where the hotel used to be, and the bottom of it. We saw the Tuhoto’s house. His house was buried but he didn’t die. The people wouldn’t dig him out because they thought that he made the eruption happen.
For lunch we went back to camp to have a barbecue. I had a sausage, some bread and a drink. After lunch we washed our dishes and we waited until everyone was finished and then hopped in the vans and went to Leisure World. At Leisure World we saw dinosaurs, hyrdoslides and dodgems. I went on the blue slide first. Then I went on the red one and then the black one. The black slide had two big drops, they were my favourite. Inside the black slide it was scary, dark, warm and a bit hard to breathe. It had spiky bits on it hurt your bottom. Then we went inside and played on the dodgems. Then we went back to the camp and got ready to go to Pizza Hut. Then we got in the vans and drove to Pizza Hut then we had a tour around Pizza Hut and we saw a man making pizza, then we saw all of the stuff stored in a huge fridge. Then we learnt to how to make pizza boxes and I did not know how to that much. Then we had dinner at Pizza Hut and I had some yummy pizza that had nice sauce on it. I had a Milo and an ice cram for pudding and I had chocolate sauce on it. Then we went home and got ready for bed.

Wednesday

On Wednesday I had corn flakes for breakfast and then we had free time and I went to the shop and I brought son lollies. Then we went back to my room and got ready to go to the Rotorua Museum and it was huge! Then we went inside and we went to a place about mount tawera. The guy that was teaching name was George then he gave as a peace of paper and it had questions of mount tawera and I did not answer all of the questions. Then we watched a movie and it was about mount tawera and when there was an earthquake the seats that we were sitting wobbled. We went into anther room and split up into three groups then we went down the steps to this underground place like was on a movie and we saw lots of pipes and on one of the sighs it said one person thought that there was a ghost bit it was really the pipes. Then we went up lots of stairs and we were at the top of the museum. When I was at the top I saw heaps of people and houses and the gondola then we went to a park for early lunch and I played on the playground then we got back into the vans and drove to Te puia and we watched the Cultural Show and we saw a man do a challenge Then we went inside the whare and watched a performance of songs and plays. After they were finished we walked around looking at the mud pools and learning about the fumaroles. We were able to sit on a rock that was very hot. Next we went back and looked at some where nui and one of them were down in the ground to keep the heat in. It also had small doors and a little window. The bigger one had a bigger door. We watched the woman weave and learnt how to weave flowers and roses out of flax. Then we hoped back into the vans and went back to the camp to the camp and got our togs and then we went back into the vans and we had a half an hour drive to go to the hot pools. When I got to the hot pools I saw lots of people playing and they did not have there head wet. Next we got into our togs and got into the pool. It was hot like a bath and I could only just touch the bottom of the big part of the pool. Next I meet a new friend called Angel and she was 11.years old. When I got out I saw people diving in the pool and getting their heads wet which was not good. We went for a walk across a bridge and saw bubbling water and there was lots of steam around it. I went back over the bridge to the shop and bought some drinks and food. It was time for home. Back at camp we had tea, wash our dishes and went to bed.

Thursday

Thursday morning I got up and made my bed and got dressed. We had breakfast and we washed our dishes again. We got ready to go on the Luge. At the Luge we went on the gondola up the hill to the Luge. We put our tickets through the slot and through a gate. The Luge was black and it was very low to the ground you had to push forward to make it go faster and you had to pull towards you to make it go slower. It was fun because you went fast as but the bad thing about it was that the corners were too sharp. Some people went round corners on two wheels!!! When I got to the bottom of the hill I went through a skinny road and there was a conveyor belt that you had to put your luge car on. Then you had to walk across a path way and get on a chair lift. It was scary to get on because it was too high to jump on and it stopped sometimes. From the chair lift I could see lots of helmets in trees and a luge car at the bottom of a hill. I saw lots of people going past on the road. I got four turns on the luge.
After that we got back in the vans and went back to the camp and had lunch. We had to go quick because we were late for the skiing. We made burgers for lunch. It was nice.
After lunch we had to go back to our cabin and get our togs on because we were going to the Blue Lake to water skiing and biscuiting. When I was there we had to get lifejacket on. Caterina went first on the biscuit. Then I went next on the biscuit with my friend then the next time I went I went with the same person and Hannah and she was scared. When I was on the biscuit I felt like falling of but I did not. My toes touched the water. I felt all funny inside. Next I went water skiing and it was scary. After that we went to our cabins and got our plates and went down for tea. After I cleaned my dishes I went back to my cabin. Then Miss Lewis came up and we played some games. Then we got ready for bed.

Friday
We had some breakfast and cleaned up all our stuff and it took a long time. We chose what van we wanted to go in. Then we went out of Rotorua and had lunch at Whakamaru and I got an ice block. On the way home I got sick and I told a story to Caterina and she got scared. The rest of the way home was dumb and stupid and boring. When I got to school my dad came and picked me up and went home.
