Since we hadn’t ridden our horses for a while my horse was being pretty stupid. She was jumping around and not waiting and taking off every time she had the chance. It was fun but by the end of it my thighs were pretty sore. On Sunday we went mustering for sheep. We had to drench them. Since we don’t start lambing until way late there were only like on sheep with a lamb so we left her up there with a couple of other sheep that looked like they were going to lamb. Since Nina and I had to go down a ridge we cantered really fast up the ridge to get back to the other horses. I so felt like Shadow was going to buck so I held her back a little bit. When we got back to the other horses Brooke (Since she came over to ride with us and help us with the mustering) was trying to teach Sunny to back 5 steps and then walk forward 5 steps and then I tried with Shadow and she did it really well.
When mum was back at the bike we followed her down. Roma lead her horse down and the rest of us rode down on our horses. Brooke kept on asking if Te Waiata will miss her and Sunny will like her. We kept on saying yes and no. About 15mins later we got to the bottom of the track mum was doing something with the fence and the sheep were just grazing in paddock next to us. Brooke asked us if we could do jumping when we got home and then about 5 minutes later she asked if we should go and help mum with the gate of whatever she was doing. We said that if you want to go and help mum then we won’t be able jump. She said that she really wanted to jump because she had never jumps on Sunny before. When we got home we tied the horses up so then we could go and get something to eat for lunch since dad had made a pizza. But dad had to still put the toppings on the pizza so I had to go and help mum draft out the sheep. Then we went back tot the house to have some pizza and then mum went up and started to drench the sheep. Since she has to go and help Silvia and Allen with the milking I had to finish of the drenching and Brooke held my horse. Once we had finished drenching we went back down to UN tack the horses so Brooke took the saddle of Sunny and then put it back on Te Waiata so then she could ride back to her house. Since Roma did not want to jump her before, Brooke jumped Te Waiata and then she went home. I had to call Debbie si then she new when Brooke was coming home.

Palmerston North

It was really loud on the way up because the music was really loud and every on was singing and I brought lots of lollies on the way up. I was in a room with just about all the oldest in my team expect me because even though I am the tallest in the team I am the second youngest. We got all of our rooms ready and then went to bed. In the morning we were awake first so we made our lunches. It was really hot so we didn’t have to wear all of our heavy gear. The courts were about 5mins away from our motel so we left quite late but we left early enough so we could warm up before our first game. We had about 5 games but they were really short. They were 6minute quarters so all together it was 24mimutes. I was really tired at the end because I had no times off and I was playing Goal Defence for the whole time. When we had finished our coach told us who was player of the day and she chose me. I was really happy and so was dad because he had come to watch for the day. Mum said that she really wanted to come but a truck was coming at about 10:00 so it was too late for her to travel up to Palmerston North and back again. She said that she was really sorry. When we got back to the motel Hannah my coach had the bath run warmish hot and two buckets of ice. What we had to do was but our feet in freezing cold ice and then after a minute we had to quickly get into a hot bath and put our feet in that, then we had to get back into the ice and after a minute we had to get into the hot water again and then we could go and get changed out of our wet clothes into dry clothes and then watch every body else do what we did. I went first with another girl called Evie. Since we were first we had to have to coldest ice but then it wouldn’t work as well. What it was meant to do was loosen our calf muscles so then we would be able to play better the next day. In the morning the next day it was really cold and spitting, so we did wear our heavy gear!!!! When we got into our van it was nice and hot so I started taking of my jackets and stuff put I couldn’t really because it was all squashed because we were going home today and we weren’t coming back to the motel so we had to bring all of our bags and stuff. Since I just about coughed all night I was really tired but I still tried to play my best. When we got there it was freezing cold and it was still spitting a little bit. Some teams had just started their first game and we were next so we had to get warmed up. But before we started warming up we just started shooting. Then we started warming up after about 10 minutes. After about half an hour we had our first game it was really easy so we won by heaps. Then we warmed up again like 10 minutes before our next game that game was also so easy so we bashed them as well!!! The next game was against a harder team but we still bet them but I don’t think the score was very high. Sometimes we just don’t play very well and we get great intercepts and we just chuck it away that is most probably why we kept on loosing against the A taranaki team. My coach keeps on saying that since they are called the ‘A’ team then they are way better than us. But the only reason that we keep on loosing against them because 1. We weren’t playing as a team and 2. We kept on throwing the ball away. Even though I totally thought that they were going to waste us the first and second time we didn’t lose by lots witch was really lucky. After prize giving we got back into our very squishy van all wet and stinky and started on the rode home. It wasn’t as squishy as before because lots of parents came to watch and they took their children home so only about 6 of us stayed on the bus. Even though Silvia came to watch I still had to go in the van with the others. We ate all the lollies that dad had brought for us and then I started to feel sick even though I didn’t show it. When we were getting closer to where I had to get of I started to feel home sick or something in my tummy started to do something and for some strange reason I started to cry. When every one was asking what was wrong I didn’t no what to say so I just nodded my head and stuff like that because I did not no what to say. When we got to Hawera Silvia was waiting for me and a couple of other parents were waiting for their kids. I got or of the van and then I remembered that I didn’t have the quiche dish that I had put my potato bake into. I had left in Ricky’s mum’s car. Ricky is a girl from my team she is a really good WA and she never plays centre. Hannah said that I would get it next practice. When I got into Silvia’s car she asked where I wanted to go and get something to eat I said that I already had, had a burger because we had stopped at Mc Donald’s and I had brought a burger. Even though Hannah said that we were just going to go straight home. So Silvia was a bit grumpy about that. Because otherwise Silvia had stopped at Mc Donald’s as well but any way!!! On the way home we had to stop at Hannah and Greg’s place because Roma and Caterina had slept there the night before they came up to Palmerston North and they had left a couple of things there. When we had got home Nina had made a cake to celebrate how we came second. It was really pretty but I didn’t feel like anything to eat because I had lots to eat on the way home. But she had also made a drink so I drank that!!! I had a bath and I stayed in there for ages until mum shouted at me to get out so then I got our put on my PJ’s and then dad rubbed my sore calf’s and then I went to bed. I fell asleep real quickly because I only had 1 half off dring the whole 2 games.

Netball

Yesterday our Saturday netball team went to a tournament. We did pretty well against the other teams. We won two and drew 1. If we had got higher points the other teams that we had won against then we would if got in the semi-finals but this huge school called Highlands got way higher points against the teams that we won against so they got in the semi-finals and played against a really hard team they were called Kaponga 2 quick. We played them on Saturday and we lost by seven goals. Robyn said that we did really well against those teams. I was really tired at the end of all of those games because I had to play 3 whole half hour games and all I wanted to do was sleep. Once we had left we went to go and see nana at the hospice. It was really quiet and when we got there nana was walking up the walkway thing to her room. Nina followed her while I waited for mum to come and then show her which room nana was in. when we had got to nana’s room granddad was there and their friend from Raglan came down to see them so she was there as well. They asked if we could get and get them a cup of tea and Nina and I had a Milo. They where huge cups so it took a while for Nina and I to finish them. We talked about our horses and if we still had Kaimanawas at our house still and mum said yes and still buying another one!!! Laugh out loud!!!! Once we had finished our Milo and mum had finished her cup of tea we went to the car and then when we were on our way to the petrol station I called dad and told him how Nina and I got on and then told him where were we were and some other stuff and then hung up and then fell asleep!!!!!!! (I was lucky that mum woke me up when we got to the petrol station so then I could get a chocolate bar!!!!).When we got home I feel asleep until dinner was ready and then after dinner I went to bed.

sheep dissection

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_LnRg2DSXy6c/SFBhzNKlUrI/AAAAAAAAABs/4tgdI42GYZQ/s200/IMG_5346.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5210772301202936498" />
On the 6th of June dad came down to do school to do a dissection with a lamb. We named it Lucy. When dad got here we had a talk about what things that we had to do if we were going to touch some of things inside of Lucy. When we had finished talking we got our shoes on and then went over to the offal hole and dad brought the motor bike up and pulled Lucy off the trailer. When dad got Lucy off the trailer we got our gloves on and then watched as dad show us the ball and socket joint. I thought it was a big ball and socket but it just looked like a bubble and a little hole!! Next he opened up the stomach and first her showed us the ribs and then cut them out and chucked them away. After that she took out the liver and then we all got to hold it but Kelly and Maddy stayed back and did not even want to see the liver. It was heaver then I thought it was and it was also was heaver then it looked!!! Next he cut out the lungs and then asked if we knew the difference between them because if we had a sick animal then they are usually the same colour so he put them in a bucket of water. The liver sunk and the lungs floated because it still had air in it. Then dad cut out the heart. Dad asked us some questions about it and it had small blood clots in it. Dad asked us all the parts of the heart and we also saw that the heart was under the lungs and the ribs. Next dad slit the stomach and then all of this rumen came out. Every one said eeeeeeeewwwwwwww!!! After that dad got out the intestines we had a talk about them and then we measured them. Altogether they were about 14 meters long not including the large intestine. Dad said that ours where about 30 meters long. Next dad cut off the skin of Lucy’s face. We had a look at the teeth and the mouth and then he cut out the eye!! It was really disgusting when he did that even though when he had cut it out he showed us the lens of the eye and then dad poked Lucy’s eye and then this fluid came out and it got dad!!! Caterina had the camera and she got a really good photo of it when the fluid came out of his eye!!! Next dad showed us that at the bottom of the eye it had this really, really pretty bluey greeny colour. It was B E A U T I F U L. (the colour that was)!!!

At Home

Yesterday mum did my horse’s first time of bare foot trimming. I think that is really cool because since she has just been broken in and only have a month or so to learn to pick up her feet and then suddenly she have to stand there for an hour or so but only just pulled away from mum a couple of times and when mum did the rasping she only wanted to put her feet back when mum was trying to rasp her back feet. When mum had finished doing her feet I went over the house and got her a whole apple to give it to her to say that it was alright if mum did her feet. Once mum had finished her feet and Shadow was eating her apple mum was going on about how good she was and how our other horses would have done and about this and how she was just a baby and she was doing all this stuff. Even though it thought that it was pretty cool that Shadow had let mum do all of her feet. (Considering that she had a huge scar on her back foot so she did not want mum to lift it up) I didn’t really think that mum would go on and on about it even though some parts wee pretty interesting!!! (Laughing out loud).
When I had put Shadow away I went over to the house and Nina was cooking and Roma was on the computer and Caterina was watching her. (That was pretty usual). As soon as I came in dad came in and told us to go and feed our horses and do all of our jobs around the house. So I went back outside to get Shadows bucket and I told Nina to go and get Lilly’s, Penny’ and Sunny’s bucket. When Nina had brought them up I had already done Shadows feed and was doing Delilah’s feed when Nina came up with the other horses feed so I had to do them as well. I only usually do the oat and chaff because when I do the Sugar beet I get stuff all over my hand sp I usually get my other sisters to do that!!
When I was giving Shadows feed to her she trotted after me because she loves it (and so do the other horses.) so she does all this stupid stuff so I kept walking around until she settled down and then I gave it to her. I put it in this little hole so then I would not roll down the hill so the next might after that I would not have to go down the hill to get the bucket. When I got inside Roma was running the shower and Caterina was cleaning up her side of the room. They did not come out and help Nina and I with the horses because I told them to tidy up the house but I also meant mine and Nina’s side of the room not just there’s. Nina got some of her muffins out and then put the other ones in but then when the timer went of for the other lot they weren’t even close to finishing. So we did the horses and then when we got inside the bath was running. When mum came in we had all got through the bath and Nina and I were tidying up our side.

Skills Day

On Sunday Kelly and I went to a skills day in Stratford. We went because we were trying to get into the rep tem. Kelly and I were picked out of 70 year 7’s and next Sunday we are going to another one to another Skills day. This time we have to try and get into the A year 7’s team or the development. If we get into the A team then we will have to go to a tournament and if we can not go to the tournament then we will not be able to go any further. I really want to get into the rep team.

Sport

Yesterday our Saturday netball team went to a tourterment. Robin said that we did really well against those teams. I was really tired at the end of all of those games because I had to play 3 whole half hour games and all I wanted to do was sleep.

Jones Cup

On Tuesday we went to Jones Cup. Even though we had these really ugly uniforms ED still won the Jones Cup. We won all our games and I only played one position because Linda Collins would not let me change. There were really hard teams but we still bet them. Luckily we had really good shooters and good defence because we would not have won. The hardest team would most probably Midhirst Blue. The score was 8-6 but I thought that we lost but we ended up winning!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday Sport

On Saturday our Netball team played against the second hardest team and luckily for them they won!!!
The score was something like 33-26 we could of done better but we weren’t fit enough so we got tired. We were going well in the 1st and 2nd quarter but then we just do tired but we still kept on going. Some people weren’t playing as well as the usually do but I think that they still tried. It was fun though even though we lost. I think that it was good that we lose against another team instead of just one and winning against all of the other teams. It was really hard though. Before all of this game happened we had to drive to town and then since there was some kind of car thing so we all got out and dad parked the car and then we went over to watch Roma play her hockey. When they were warming up Angus, Koren, Claire and Fiona were walking to the turf. Nina saw them and then she told me then we went over to greet them. We watched them hockey guys play for a while and then Nina, Koren, Claire and I got board so we went over to our mum and then we asked for some money to go and get some lollies. Mum said no because we she paid all this money for our teeth. They said that we could go and walk around and look at the food but Nina and I brought some lollies anyway!!!! Nina brought something for Koren but since our parents said no koren did not want any. I brought a Claire a Russian Fudge and she said that she had never tasted that before but when she did taste it she really liked it. Then we went to mum. Dad had taken Caterina to rugby and then we went to go and watch Caterina play rugby and then we went to our netball.

Caterinas birthday Party

On Sunday 11th May Caterina had a birthday party. All the kids in the school came expect Rhys. Caterina got a lot of money and a lot of presents!!!! We had about four or five games and my team won most of them. In the sack race I was in front of Kelly and Koren a so Kelly pulled my hair and my top so it was a draw so Kelly, Koren and I had to do the race again. Lots of people felt sick at the end of it because we had brought a lot of chocolate prizes.
I think that it was cool the Brooke brought her horse down because we were going to ride and most kids rode Te Waiata any way. We got all the horses out so the kids could ride them but when Henry a friend of ours got on Roma’s pony she kept on bucking when Henry as on her so he got of and I got on and went for a canter. She only did about three bucks and then she was good. I think that she was bucking because henry was heavy and she is cold backed. (That means that she always has the girth done up straight away so she bucks.) I just about fell of because my stirrups were way to long and Sunny (Roma’s horse) was doing so many huge bucks. Lucky I knew how to grip and knew how to stop a horse because when Samantha was riding Te Waiata and I was coming down the hill on Sunny I just about bucked right into Samantha on Te Waiata. Then I went for a canter and she did even more bucks but I still did not fall of. Dad said that we had to put the horses away and start playing the games. So we did that and then we played the games. We had teams for the whole day and the teams names were, The Flying Pigs and the other team was The Talking Fish. I thought that the teams were fair because we kept on having draws!!! Then every one left and wewatched a movie and then we had dinner and then went to bed.

Brenda Bellringer course

On the 30th of April Nina, Roma, Caterina and I went to a rally with our horses at the pony club grounds in Stratford. It was sort of a private rally but with only four people in the group not lots of people. On the first day it was pouring down with rain and since Roma and Caterina’s horses were at our friends place mum dropped Nina and I of first since we only have a double horse float. We were standing there in the rain for ages until Bev the person who ran the whole day said that we could put them in the barn.
We walked them over to the barn then we could not find a gate to get in or something. So we just stood there until this man came over. He found a way to get our horses in and then we stayed there until mum came with the other two and there ponies. A couple of minutes before mum came the man left and when mum came Nina and I tried to get our horses out the way the man did Shadow my horse got caught up on the wire and pulled and pulled. Since Nina was standing on the wire when Shadow went over Nina fell flat on her bum and then it was all dirty!!!!!
Once Shadow had got herself out of the wire both the horses were snorting and they were really scared. The same man came over to help us and so did Bev (the lady who ran the whole day.) when they got to the barn where we were they said to go and get ready while they fix the wire and make it look all tidy again!!!!!!! When we were leading them over to mum the horses where still snorting and they were really hyper!!!!!!!! I thought it was good until we actually started to work Shadow started to buck when I was on her but I was lucky not to fall of!!!! I was lucky not to fall of because we were in the sand arena and it was all wet but Shadow did not care!!!
On the first day there were two other kids that we knew with there horses that learnt with us but on the second day there was just the Polettis!!! Mum thought that the second day was better because the other girls were not there. (Mum also thought that they were rude because the kept on talking back!) on the frist day we learnt how to trot on the right diagonal witch was really hard because she asked us if we were or not but if we said yes and we were wrong she said NO and we had to sit one beet but I usually sat either 2 or 3 but I got there in the end.
After both the days we were really tired and so were the ponies but the quickly ate up the hard food that we gave them then we put them in the paddock and I think that they were happy then!

Tuesday 15th April

On Monday the 14th of April the year 8s went to the youth leadership conference. They were really excited but when they left it was all really quiet. (I think that they were the loudest in the school!) and then when we got home Nina rang up and she left a message because we went to town but on the message she said something about poor Johnny the crab he died so mum chucked him out so we thought that was pretty weird! Since mum was gone and we went to town to get some food but we also got DVDs and mum does not usually let us watch them on school nights but dad let us. Today they are coming home and I think that the school will be loud again but that will be ok.

Mackbeth

On Sunday Eila, Collin, Nina and I went to a Shakespeare play in Hawera. The play was called Macbeth and I was cool even though it was really hard to understand. I think it was hard to understand because they said it all in Shakespeare language! It started at 8:00 and when we got back into the car it was about 10:30 so when we got home it was 11:30 and Nina and I slept just about the whole way. I think that Macbeth was the 2nd play that I had gone to see. Eila said that it was written in a modern way so that it was easier to understand even though I still could not understand it. My favourite part of the play was when someone was knocking on the door and the Porter was going on and on about the knocking on the door witch was pretty funny! It was pretty obvious that he was drunk!

My Last Horse Show On Sunny

Yesterday Nina, Roma, Caterina and I went to a horse show and I went on my horse Sunny and for dressage I came 1st against Nina, Roma and another girl I know called Sarah. For show jumping I refused once but then cleared the rest of the jumps and for cross country I got clear and on the last jump I caught up with Delilah and Nina because Delilah would not go over it because ‘it was to scary’ for her but luckily Sunny did not mind but once Sunny had jumped it Delilah followed her. Since we picked up Brooke on the way she got to have a couple of jumps when we had finished the show (even though I said a couple of jumps it was actually the whole round of the cross country!!!
Once we had really tried the horses out we had a sandwich and then loaded the Penny and Sunny up and Te Waiata and Delilah went with a friend of ours. Then we went home.

ESSAY

I disagree that it is better living in the country because even though you get much fitter, fresh air, less pollution and we have more room to play sport, you can’t meet as many friends in the country as you can in the city or town. I think that the worst thing about living in the country is travelling to get to work and stuff like that. But you don’t have to travel as long if you live in the city or town.
Doing sport is hard for the people who live in the country because they have to travel further to get to everything and also you can’t play all the sports that you want to because it costs so much money for the petrol. Also it is so long to drive even though it is easier to get into a team.
The shops would get more money because people who live in the country have to save up so they get a lot of food. But if everybody thought that the country was better than the city the diaries and stuff would not get as many costumers and not very much money so they would all go out of business
I think that parents that live on the farm think that living in the country is way better then the city because on the farm there is cheaper meat, they can grow their own vegetables and they would also get to spend more time with their family because they are always at home. But then again if they are not getting enough money on the farm they would have to came to town every day to go to work and guess how much money they would spend on petrol!
I think that town schools are better because there are more friends to choose out of and there are school trips just about every year. There is the right amount of people to play different games at lunch. At most town schools there are dentists just over the road from the school so once the kids are done at the dentist they can just come back to school instead of travelling to the dentist every month or so.
Travelling is a problem for people who are living in the country because they have to travel further but if you live in the town then they can just walk down to the shop to get a few things and you would not have to use as much petrol as well.
As you have read in my Essay it is better living in the town because it does not cost as much and you can do as much sport as you want and don’t have to travel a long way to get to things and places.

OUR NEXT ODE

In the 6th of April Nina, Roma, Caterina and I are all going to a One day event. Caterina is going in the lead rein class and Nina Roma and I are going in the off lead rein class and there is no one else competing so Nina Roma and I are all competing against each other. So that means that we will all get a ribbon in my class because there is a 1st ,2nd and 3rd placing and there are only 3 people in our class. I don’t really no how Caterina will go because there are 5 more lead reiners and her horse had just gone to a big games day so she is really, really fit!!! (Caterina does not even want to ride her first because her horse is really fast so she might run out of the arena again like she did at her last show!)
This morning mum said that there was only going to be like 10 people there altogether because it is only a local One Day event and there is only going to be Eltham and Central Makahu Pony club there is well.

Monday 31st March

Yesterday my parents where so happy because it was raining we hardly did any thing because since it was raining and we have cough. But in the morning mum, Roma and I went to go and see if there were any possums in the traps. When we had finished we got 15 so since me and Roma helped mum we got $1 each possum so altogether we got $15 each. Since the track we went up was slippery mum was sliding on the bike down the hill, the bike was sliding towards the bank on the side of the track Roma had to get of and walk down the hill because other wise she would get a smoshed leg!!!
I got of any way because then Roma would not have to walk down the hill by her self!! When we were on the way down we were skidding down the hill and Roma just about fell over!!!!
When we got home dad was cooking lunch and Nina was playing on the computer and Caterina was watching. What Nina was playing was a online game called www.miniclip.com . when lunch was ready I quickly ate what was on my plate and then went over to the computer and I played the same game as Nina. Then when we had nothing to do we went to do some baking and then gave our horses their hard food and then cleaned up the house, had dinner and then went to bed.

ESSAY

THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY SPORT IN THE WORLD…

I absolutely disagree with this statement lots of kids will be unhealthy. The kids will get board, lazy, fat and so unfit, even though their parents won’t have to get up early in the morning.
Not being allowed to play sport it would affect coaches because they would not get any money and would not be able to meet any new children.
It would affect the children the most by not getting strong and they would get uncoordinated because they would not get to play any thing new.
Even though people who don’t like playing sport would be happy but would not develop any new skills and would get absolutely unhealthy, unfit and they would also get very weak. Kids who love sport also would not be able to develop any skills when they are older.
Parents would not have to pay any money so they would be happy! But what about their kids? They would get fat and would not have anything to do.
As you have read in my essay that if there is no sport then the kids will get so unhealthy, I have explained who would get affected if there was no sport in the world. It was really fun even though our bums were sore when we had finished and so were the horses’ legs!
On the first of the treak we started at the campgrounds in wanga with 13 people and us four were the youngest!
Since people were still saddling up we left but they caught up with us because we had to wait for them at the gate in a huge paddock.
It was soooo annoying because when it was lunch time we had to wait until Jack Curtis got off his horse and we had to wait until Jack did this and wait until Jack does thatL but also he was the organizing the treak. But it was not him who told us to do it was our MOTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!When we got to where we were going to stay the night the old people talked and we had dinner, had a shower and then went to bed.
In the morning I didn’t want to wake up because I was sooooo tired but I had to get up anywayL.
Once we had all got up we had breakfast and then got or ponies tacked up. Half way through the treak Sunny my pony was not behaving and not standing still and always standing on my feet when I got off her so when mum came me and mum swapped ponies cause mum was borrowing and pony off Jack because her horse had a sore foot. Her name was Julie.
When I got on her there were lots of hills and Julie just flew up them and even passed Caterina’s fast little pony Penny and man Penny is like a race car when she wants to be!!!!!!
On the third day I just could not get up but I had to and that was when we went over Jacks old fram and it was like we were on the top of the world because we were up so high!! The third day I think would be the bet day of the treak!

2nd November 2006

Yesterday Miss Worthington came to school because Mr Chapman and Miss Lewis had to go to the other room to learn about things that they could teach us. It had really long legs with white on them. The same as Sunny it had a white blaze and it was a chestnut as well.
At first we did not know a name for it but Nina that she will find a name for it at school. When we got to school our whole school was playing Tennis and Nina was looking throw the dictionary and she found some Mâori words in it. She found a word called Poni Poni (it means pony) or Hoi Hoi (it means horse.) or maybe Aataahua witch means beautiful. I said that I really liked Ataahua so did Roma and Caterina and when we got home and told mum and dad and then they liked that is well so that is wheat we named her.
On the 25th of October I got up to go and see if I could go and pat Sunny and she would not try and hurt me. We took them in to the yards and then mum showed me what she did with sunny first… what she did was get the carrot stick and then told me I should go and gat a carrot out of the fridge for Sunny if she is going to be good and do what we want her to do. When I got back mum held the carrot out and then Sunny came up to mum and then ate the carrot. When Sunny was eating the carrot mum got the carrot stick and then rubbed her with the carrot stick and sunny started moving her nose because that was her itchy spot! Then mum asked me if I wanted a go and I said yes and then I did the same thing as mum and Sunny was as good.

20th october 2006

Yesterday Nina got her calf.
She was a big calf with bright white and black spots. Once we had finished all of our games Fiona took lots of photos of our netball team. Koren and Claire’s nana and Gran dad came to watch Koren and Claire play because Koren is in our netball team. Once we had done thanking all the people and the coaches me and Claire and Angus went in to the Porsche with their grandad and we followed Koren and Nina and Fiona and their Nana. On the way home Nina and koren were sticking there hand out and waving at any random person so me and Claire copied them. When we had stopped at a red light me and Claire turned around and waved at the lady behind us and she kept on waving back at us and we were counting how much people waved back at us so we had about five people in our counting list. When we had got home we had something to eat and then Koren and Claire’s nana and grandad left we got UN packed and changed in to some nicer clothes that did not smell. Then we went down to the car and waited until Fiona had found her keys. Then we went to centre city and tried looking for some tight jeans for Claire but they were really expensive because Fiona had only given Claire, Koren and Angus $10 each but our dad gave us $20 each to spend. Once centre city had closed we waited for Fiona and Angus to come and pick us up and go to the warehouse and get some lollies to have while we watch the movies. When we had got out of the warehouse we went to the DVD shop to get some movies to watch. We got two one of them was called Flicka and the other one we got was called sisterhood and trust me that one was disgusting but we thought it would be a horror but it was disgusting. Flicka was a hose movie and it made me and Koren cry. That night we stayed up until 2.45 in the morning. When we got up in the morning we watched Charles angles1 and then we got dressed and went to go and get some tickets for a movie called the Sipsons. It was a really funny. Once we had done that we went to the shop with paintings in it and then we went to the book shop and then we went home and I was really tired!

9th october 2006

My Holidays

On Monday dad just told us that Roma and Caterina were going to Wellington to visit our Aunty Kay and Uncle Walter.
That night Sharna rang and asked if Nina wanted to come and stay. So one Tuesday was all alone with Mum. Because dad had to take Roma and Caterina to Wellington.
So on Monday we were all alone. But something was weird because mum had lost her voice. So it sort of sounded like she was whispering really quietly.
When we were going to move three cattle because they had not had any calves yet.
That day I had to go to Sam’s place because mum had to do her bills.
In the afternoon we made popcorn but when we had put the popcorn in we thought it was all ready but we forgot to turn the switch on and it took us a while but then I found out what had happened!
When the popcorn had finished making we got the icing sugar and put it on the popcorn then we took it out side to eat it. (We ate it out side so then the icing sugar would not go all over the floor.
When we had got outside and started eating the popcorn since Mitchell had got first pick and what he did was get the popcorn with icing sugar on it and then he would lick the icing sugar off the popcorn and then he would put the popcorn back into the bowl. (That is why I did not have that much.)
Around 5:00pm mum came to pick me up but first she wanted talk with Sam and Will so I watched TV with Maddy and Mitchell.
When we got home we feed the calves and lambs and then when I got inside mum was just about finished making the dinner I started the movie up(because mum does not know how.) The movie we were going to watch was called Hildgo.
When we were watching the movie we had our dinner watching it and then after the movie we had to go to bed.
The next day dad came home in the night and Mr Chapman and Jenny and Hannah came for dinner. During dinner Sue Woodruff rang to say that Nina was not feeling to well so mum had to pick her up.

20th september 2006

20th September 2006

Yesterday Nina got her calf.
She was a big calf with bright white and black spots. We had to do that because if they had a stone in their foot it would be really, really sore. That would be really, really bad. Next we had to get the saddle blanket and saddle and put it on their back. Then we tightened the girth.
By the time we had got on, mum was ready to go is well so we went mustering.

If i could do anything in the holidays it would be...

In the holidays if I could do one thing that was really, really cool and I did not do it these holidays, it would be…
Going to see our cousins in Australia because I only get to see then only once every couple of years. When I get there the whole family would be there to greet me. We would get my bags and then get into the car and then go to the swimming pools to get refreshed. We would stay there for about one hour. Once everybody had been refreshed we got changed back into our clothes and then got back into the car and then go back to there house for lunch because I was starved because I had nothing on the plane and only just a little pie before I left the new Plymouth airport.
When we got to there house they told me where to sleep and where the toilet was and all of that stuff and then we went to see the horses because I love horses and there whole family loves horses to. (by the way Uncle Duncan is a really, really good horse rider).
When we got there I saw the horses and even got to ride one. It was fun at the start but then when I wanted it to canter after a while it must have either got scared or excited and it bucked me of. ): and then they told me that the horse that bucked me off was the one that had not been ridden for a while and I did really well.
After that we went back home again and put some ice on my forehead because it was really sore when I had fallen off.
When my head got better we went to the swimming pools again because we all really wanted another swim. When we got to the pools we went on to the slides first and then we did lots of jumping in and diving and then we played just in the pool. We played tag and stuck in the pool! When we got board of those games we went to play in the waves and then we went to the spa because the pools place had every thing you could dream of when it came to water! (Even there was a current and a real strong one to.)
Once we got out of the pool and we got all dry and got out of our togs and into our clothes and then got back in to the car and went to Sydney. when we got to Sydney we first went to movie world and then we went to sea world and then we went to lots of other places that I can not remember.
It was about 5.00 when we got back home so when we got home we had fish and chips and then we watched a movie and then we had dessert and then we went to be. When I got into bed it was really comfy so I fell asleep real easy.
In the morning we got up at about 10.00 and we went to a horse trek. And I went on the horse that bucked me off yesterday. It was a one day trek so we only rode and stopped at this little spring and since we had to bring our own lunch we had lunch there and when we had finished we got back on our horses again and carried on with the trek. when we got home it was 7.00 and we went to a flash place for dinner and it was really nice. When we got home we went to bed we were all really tired.
In the morning we went to the air port to go and get Nina because she had just been to our half brother’s place. (I can not remember where he lives but it is a long way away from our house!)
When we got to the air port Nina was waiting for us for about 5min because the plane left a bit earlier then it was spouse to. Since Nina was tired she was a bit grumpy but she was happy to see our aunty and Uncle and our cousins. But she was especially happy to see me. (Well that was what I thought but I do not think she thought that.) Once we had picked up her bags we put them into the car and went home because Nina especially was waiting for riding and looking at the horses (of course!).
When we had got home we went straight to the horses but I had to wait until I had packed my bags because I was going to our half brother’s house the next day while Nina stayed at our cousins.
When I had got packed I went to the horses just in time to see Nina get bucked of the same horse that got me off! She was a bit disappointed that she got bucked off because when I had got there I pretended to say that when that horse tried to buck me of I stayed on.
The next day when I went to the airport the plane was cancelled so Nina and I just went home but she was a bit angry but missed her parents. So when Nina had stopped complaining we got on the plane and went home.

horse riding

On Friday after the speeches when we got home we did some baking and then we went to get our horses. I had to do some work on her she is a little bit green witch means the she is a little bit wild.
When Roma and Nina had got on their horses we did a little bit of jumping and then we went up our farm to go and do some more jumping over the logs.
When we were trotting around we saw lots of lambs crying out for their mothers but they could not find them but I think when we left to go home they got back with their mothers and shut the gobs.
When we got home we had to straight away give them a feed and brush them and go to the hopkirks for dinner. When we got there we had some dinner and then we watched a movie that none of us liked and then we watched a movie that we all liked and then we had pudding and went home and

Going to Koren and Claire's house

On Saturday we went to a five netball games and we lost three games and won two by heaps.

My Holiday

On the last week of the holidays me and Nina went to Sarah and Hannah Woodruff’s house on Tuesday. On Wednesday we got the horses called Casper and Mihi and rode double bareback down the old track on their farm to go and get some cattle and bring them back towards their house. Once we had done that we played with the horses.
On Thursday we got up early in the morning to do the cruching and when we had finished it was three o'clock in the afternoon and when we had got home we had lots of games and the last one was the treasure hunt. And the treasure was an apple for the horse and some chips for us.

Kids for Kids Concert

Last night we went to the Kids for Kids concert in New Plymouth theatre. There we heaps of children there. The man said that about 362 children were there.
At the start we had a practice and there was this girl behind me and she was probably the loudest and on wimoweh she kept on singing the wrong words so I bet she felt embarrassed and also she was so annoying because she also kept on kicking the seat on purpose because everybody looked at her when she made a mistake so she blames it on me!
On the night I was shaking all over when the curtains were being pulled but when I started to sing it just felt like a practice!
On Matilda the Gorilla a fake gorilla came out and went to the top of the stage and cuddled two girls and then ran to the bottom of the stage and while he was doing this everybody was screaming and some were laughing. In the break that was in the middle of the concert we had to go to this room and then we got lollies!
At the end of the night I felt happy that is was all over.

making desks

Today we had technology at Makahu school and we made desks for our two computers.
In our group was Connie, Justin, Roma and Maddy. When we got there we got out and went to play on the playground and then after a couple of minutes the Huiakama children arrived and then Mr Chapman said that we had to go and take our shoes of and go into the Dining room.

When we got in there we had to find a seat. There were not enough seats for me and Kristal so we had to sit on the freezing cold bench. When we were all quiet Bushman Bob’s wife told as who she was and the boundaries and the rules that they had and she also told us to watch out for the wasps. She said that they had dealt to all of the other wasps nest at Te Wera but there is still a wasp’s nest around the back of her house. Then once she had finished talking Mr Chapman told the little kids what they were doing first and through the whole day and then he told the bigger kids what we were doing first.

A man from the regional Council called Mr Archer came out and he told us a bit about him and then first thing that we did was river study. Mr Archer told us what we would be doing. Once he had finished all of his chattering Mr Chapman put us into groups and then we went down to the river to see what we could find.

When we got to the river Mr Archer told us what sorts of things we could find in the river. Mr Archer said that the first two people to find these stick things got a drink bottle that does not leak. The group that thought that had one was Nina, Koren, Megan and Samantha’s and when Mr Archer came to have a look he did not think it was one so they did not get a drink bottle and after that everybody found one and one group found a fish and a crayfish. Once forty minutes had passed Mr Archer told us to go round and see every ones boxes and to see what they had found.

When we got back to the camp Mr Archer talked to us and then he told us to line up and he said that his favourite number was 16 so once we had finished lining up he taped our heads while he counted up to 16 and the first two people to be counted on when he got up to 16 got the drink bottles. The first two people to get the drink bottles were Angus and a boy with a broken leg.

The next thing we did was have lunch and then we played predator. While Miss Hooper told us how to play Mr Chapman handed out bibs to tell us what animal we are. I was a dog and I had two lives stuck to my bib Nina and Kristal where the same animal as me so we all stayed together until Kelly came running up to me so Nina, Kristal and I got one live from her each so then she only had one and then I heard the hunter and hid but Nina and Kristal ran for there life! So that was when we split up and then I followed Roma Miss P and Scott to the place that they were going to hide bit I could get a life of all of them. I was lucky that I did not die.

After we had played Predator we got into groups and Mr Chapman took our group to Archery and Miss P took the other group to Team Building Activities. When we got to the place that we had to do Archery which was just down the hill where the playground is.

When we got down there Mr Chapman told us a few rules and then he told us to get a partner because there was not enough bows to have one each and also there was not enough targets for one each is well. My partner was Samantha and we could not get it in for a long time but then the first person to get it in out of me and Samantha was Samantha and then after a few turns I got it then I kept on getting the target.

Then we went to team building. The first activity we did was trying to get a tyre of a high pole. First we split up into two teams and we did “paper, scissors, rock” to see what team went first. Our team went first. We couldn’t find a solution so we didn’t get the tyre over the pole. The other team had a really good plan and they got it over. No-one could get it off so Chris threw it up in the air. The first time he threw it up it did a flip and landed on the pole again!

After that we went on the balancing board. All the team had to get on without the board touching the ground. It was hard.

The wall was the last activity. It was so hard. Chris had to get up the ladder and help us up. Brendan got up the wall but our team couldn’t get anyone up.

On the second day at Te Wera the bus was not going so mum had to take us to the camp. Koren and Kristal were waiting for us because they did not have any one to play with and also they did not know any body. When we got there Koren and Kristal came up to greet us but about five minutes after we had arrived Mr Chapman told us that we had to go to the hall and before we got in there we had to take our shoes off and our bags.

When we got into the hall Bushman Bob and his costume looked really cool. He had heads on the wall from animals that live in the bush. Bushman Bob said that he had to talk for 25 minuets. In the 25 minuets he talked about bush survival and what to do and not to do if it dark and how to tell if the river is safe to cross and if it was not safe to cross. Once he had finished talking he told us to line up and then he said that he would make sure the road was safe and made sure no big trucks were coming.

Once we were all over safely over we walked to the bridge where the little kids were doing river study then we went over the bridge and walked another 5 minutes until we got to the bottom of the bush.

When we got there Bushman Bob told us to imagine this story about some one who had a plane crash in the bush and it was getting dark and he had to find somewhere to sleep and then he had to build a shelter. This is where we had to come in. We were put into groups and my group was Chris, Angus, Nina, Koren, Brendan and I. the next thing we had to do was follow Bushman Bob to a place where we could start building a bivvy.

The first thing our group was to try and get our frame so then it won’t fall. The next thing we did was put the plastic and then we had to get heaps of scrub and fern so then the wind and rain could not get in. we only had half an hour to finish our bivvy. Once half an hour had gone Bushman Bob came and told us to come with him and look at the first bivvy that Callum and Justin had built. Bushman Bob talked to us a little while then he asked us if we were hungry so we had a little bit to eat before he tested Callum and Justin’s team called LOST. Their bivvy was not very good because the wind could just pick it up and then you would just have the coldest night of your life!
The next bivvy we went to was Kelly, Roma and Shane’s hut called Ngahere hut. Their hut was not very good either because there was only one little peg to really hold up the whole hut. None them got wet but the same thing happened the wind could just pick it up and they would be so cold and they will also have a really bad sleep.

Then finally we came to our one it was the best one out of all of them. The only problem was that the water could get through but the wind could not break he bivvy. Once we had finished talking and asking questions we had lunch went to go see some other bivvies and then we went back to the camp then we had to leave.

My Tanka poems

Tanka

Earthquakes
Shaking, breaking fast
Screaming yelling quickly run
People falling down
Cracking in the big green ground
Crying dieing kids

Birds
Birds are flying home
New birds are born every year
Birds singing away
They eat all of the insects
That we really need

The rule to a Tanka poem is to have 5, 7,5,7,5 syllables in each line.

Making and flying our Kites

Today at school we made kites. After lunch we made little kites and my one did not work because it broke. When we came to flying the kites we flew the dragon kite first but it did not work. Then we flew the fish kite and my one only worked a little bit. After that we flew each other's kites.

Rotorua Camp

Monday

When I stared packing I put lots and lots of clothes in a huge bag that had strings to zip it up. The sleeping bag would not fit in the huge bag and I finally got the bag to shut by jumping on it. Then I put $26 in the bag. I got all of my toiletries and put them in the bag too then put my suitcase in the car then dove to school. I felt excited. When I got there, there were two vans and they had a trailer with them. When we got there we took all of our gear out of our cars and day packs in the trailer and then I chose a van to ride in and then of we went but one of the vans were slow. Then we had lunch in Taumarunui. When I finally got there I got all of my stuff out of the vans and I found my room and then made my bed and Miss Lewis’s. We were tired.

Tuesday

I had rice bubbles with yogurt then we had free time and I talked to my mates. Next we got in the vans and went to the Buried Village and when we were at the Buried Village we saw lots of things buried in mud. We had to look around inside the Museum then we went out side and we went down steep steps to see the waterfall and the sign at the top said it was a 5 minute walk down but it only took 2 minutes! Then I saw a sign that said it was a 10 minute walk but it was not! I saw the place where the hotel used to be, and the bottom of it. We saw the Tuhoto’s house. His house was buried but he didn’t die. The people wouldn’t dig him out because they thought that he made the eruption happen.
For lunch we went back to camp to have a barbecue. I had a sausage, some bread and a drink. After lunch we washed our dishes and we waited until everyone was finished and then hopped in the vans and went to Leisure World. At Leisure World we saw dinosaurs, hyrdoslides and dodgems. I went on the blue slide first. Then I went on the red one and then the black one. The black slide had two big drops, they were my favourite. Inside the black slide it was scary, dark, warm and a bit hard to breathe. It had spiky bits on it hurt your bottom. Then we went inside and played on the dodgems. Then we went back to the camp and got ready to go to Pizza Hut. Then we got in the vans and drove to Pizza Hut then we had a tour around Pizza Hut and we saw a man making pizza, then we saw all of the stuff stored in a huge fridge. Then we learnt to how to make pizza boxes and I did not know how to that much. Then we had dinner at Pizza Hut and I had some yummy pizza that had nice sauce on it. I had a Milo and an ice cram for pudding and I had chocolate sauce on it. Then we went home and got ready for bed.

Wednesday

On Wednesday I had corn flakes for breakfast and then we had free time and I went to the shop and I brought son lollies. Then we went back to my room and got ready to go to the Rotorua Museum and it was huge! Then we went inside and we went to a place about mount tawera. The guy that was teaching name was George then he gave as a peace of paper and it had questions of mount tawera and I did not answer all of the questions. Then we watched a movie and it was about mount tawera and when there was an earthquake the seats that we were sitting wobbled. We went into anther room and split up into three groups then we went down the steps to this underground place like was on a movie and we saw lots of pipes and on one of the sighs it said one person thought that there was a ghost bit it was really the pipes. Then we went up lots of stairs and we were at the top of the museum. When I was at the top I saw heaps of people and houses and the gondola then we went to a park for early lunch and I played on the playground then we got back into the vans and drove to Te puia and we watched the Cultural Show and we saw a man do a challenge Then we went inside the whare and watched a performance of songs and plays. After they were finished we walked around looking at the mud pools and learning about the fumaroles. We were able to sit on a rock that was very hot. Next we went back and looked at some where nui and one of them were down in the ground to keep the heat in. It also had small doors and a little window. The bigger one had a bigger door. We watched the woman weave and learnt how to weave flowers and roses out of flax. Then we hoped back into the vans and went back to the camp to the camp and got our togs and then we went back into the vans and we had a half an hour drive to go to the hot pools. When I got to the hot pools I saw lots of people playing and they did not have there head wet. Next we got into our togs and got into the pool. It was hot like a bath and I could only just touch the bottom of the big part of the pool. Next I meet a new friend called Angel and she was 11.years old. When I got out I saw people diving in the pool and getting their heads wet which was not good. We went for a walk across a bridge and saw bubbling water and there was lots of steam around it. I went back over the bridge to the shop and bought some drinks and food. It was time for home. Back at camp we had tea, wash our dishes and went to bed.

Thursday

Thursday morning I got up and made my bed and got dressed. We had breakfast and we washed our dishes again. We got ready to go on the Luge. At the Luge we went on the gondola up the hill to the Luge. We put our tickets through the slot and through a gate. The Luge was black and it was very low to the ground you had to push forward to make it go faster and you had to pull towards you to make it go slower. It was fun because you went fast as but the bad thing about it was that the corners were too sharp. Some people went round corners on two wheels!!! When I got to the bottom of the hill I went through a skinny road and there was a conveyor belt that you had to put your luge car on. Then you had to walk across a path way and get on a chair lift. It was scary to get on because it was too high to jump on and it stopped sometimes. From the chair lift I could see lots of helmets in trees and a luge car at the bottom of a hill. I saw lots of people going past on the road. I got four turns on the luge.
After that we got back in the vans and went back to the camp and had lunch. We had to go quick because we were late for the skiing. We made burgers for lunch. It was nice.
After lunch we had to go back to our cabin and get our togs on because we were going to the Blue Lake to water skiing and biscuiting. When I was there we had to get lifejacket on. Caterina went first on the biscuit. Then I went next on the biscuit with my friend then the next time I went I went with the same person and Hannah and she was scared. When I was on the biscuit I felt like falling of but I did not. My toes touched the water. I felt all funny inside. Next I went water skiing and it was scary. After that we went to our cabins and got our plates and went down for tea. After I cleaned my dishes I went back to my cabin. Then Miss Lewis came up and we played some games. Then we got ready for bed.

Friday
We had some breakfast and cleaned up all our stuff and it took a long time. We chose what van we wanted to go in. Then we went out of Rotorua and had lunch at Whakamaru and I got an ice block. On the way home I got sick and I told a story to Caterina and she got scared. The rest of the way home was dumb and stupid and boring. When I got to school my dad came and picked me up and went home.

Connie's Diary

I am Connie and I go to Makahu School.
